In the presence of pines trees...

As a kid growing up in the prairies I remember being a little bit ‘tree starved’. There wasn’t an abundance, that’s for sure… people would plant them in their yards, but it wasn’t the same as the untamed, towering versions that existed in nature.

Then when I was sixteen, we moved to British Columbia…

We went from wide open prairie fields to a tree-covered land of mountains and valleys. Forests everywhere! It was amazing.

And finding friends to go trekking through the woods was the absolute best. I was always up for getting away to chill out in nature.

Over the years, pine trees became a favourite. They never seemed to change. While other trees lost their leaves and went to sleep in the winter, evergreens remained bright and beautiful, year round.

To me, pine trees embody a constant strength, beauty and resilience.

They stand up through all kinds of extremes. From sun-drenched in the summer to snow-capped in the winter, they always have an earthy freshness.

So distinct and interesting… I could paint them a thousand times! (and will)
