Have you ever thought about what viewing art does to your mind or body?
Maybe not, but I’m sure you’ve felt its effects…
As an artist, I get to experience the feelings of art from two sides – the ‘making it’ side and the ‘viewing it’ side.
During the making stage, no matter whether it’s a bold abstract sculpture or a detailed painting of a mountainside, one of the goals as an artist is to capture a feeling.
This can be different for different artists – joy, excitement, peace, calm, dreamy mysteriousness and so on.
In my case, it’s often about creating a feeling of peace…
Why? Because I benefit from the peace of the outdoor scenes that I spend time in, and want you to experience that too. Re-creating landscapes through vibrant paint and captivating marks, is my way of bringing you into them.

And speaking of experiencing art…
Think about the last time you viewed a painting that really captured you…
Did you pause for a moment to fully absorb? How did you feel after? relaxed? happy? content?
I notice my whole body relax when a piece is truly inspiring. Even if there’s initial excitement, shortly after I feel my body relax.
Making paintings that spark feelings of joy AND peace is at the heart of my practice.
There are endless benefits to each.
To be able to share these moments through paint and creative expression, feels like a gift.
