Have you ever made a cool piece of art that originally started as a practice piece… you like it but aren’t quite sure what to do with it? Why not transform it into another piece of art?

This is exactly what I do with practice sketches or paintings on paper that turn out better than expected. I don’t have the heart to throw them away!

So instead, I seal and transform them into something decorative. In the photo above, I took a painting on paper and turned it into a string of colorful stars. These hang in my living room and get a lot of compliments.

Another idea is to make your art into special occasion cards or tags. This has now become my habit – I have a pile of leftover art pieces ready to make into cards.

And trust me on this, people absolutely love getting homemade cards or notes, even if it’s a simply a personalized tag attached to a bottle of wine.

My art cards have been appreciated more than I ever expected!

There are many ways to re-purpose your art, here are just a few ideas:

  • collage onto furniture
  • cut into pieces and attach to other artwork
  • trim down to the section you like and frame a small image with a wide matte
  • paper lanterns
  • paper decorations
  • cards and tags

I’d love to see what you come up with… feel free to share.  Use your imagination, and have fun with it!
